UNCHARTED, a season investigating fundamental questions about dance, placing artists, performers, and audiences in states of unknowing and pushing the boundaries of the art. The season showcases choreography by some of Twin Cities most recognized artists including BodyCartography Project, Becky Heist, Erin Thompson, Heidi Eckwall, Marcus Young, Maggie Bergeron, Pramila Vasudevan, and dances by Young Dance Student Choreographers.
AUDIENCES can expect to see a dance exploring the rivers and tides as the performers interpret a Haiku poem. In another work, the performers will share a dance they approached as visual artists, designing the space with the physical forms of their bodies, kinetic pathways, and articulate movement qualities. In Heidi Eckwall's piece performers have worked with lighting design discovering the possibilities of theater lighting, and what it means for the lights to be the dance.
The Young Dance student matinee concerts are presented in an education setting, in which your students have the opportunity to witness dancing performed by their peers, ask questions about the dances, remark about what they see, and talk directly to the student choreographers. The Young Dance concerts allow students to engage with other like students in the performance and in dance.
